STEM Alliance and Te Hononga Akoranga COMET have co-ordinated the Curious Minds south Auckland Participatory Science Platform since 2015. In that time, over $1.3M has been distributed to community STEM research projects engaging 8,000+ students.
We’ve seen first-hand how powerful role models can be essential for igniting a passion for STEM in young people. When students meet professionals from diverse backgrounds and hear about exciting STEM career pathways, it opens up a world of possibilities. However, when they actively participate in STEM and become the drivers of their own learning, those possibilities are much more tangible and relevant.
Working with industry partners on community STEM projects not only inspires students but also boosts teacher confidence and capabilities. These collaborations provide educators with fresh insights and resources, helping them bring STEM subjects to life in the classroom. Over time, this ripple effect can create a wider, lasting impact across schools and communities.
